My goals for student ePortfolios are to create:
- a student centered classroom focused on collaboration, where the teacher is facilitator and guide rather then main source of information
- a vehicle for authentic documentation of student achievement by giving students the opportunity to “set their own goals, determine their own learning needs, and monitor their own progress”
- opportunities to integrate technology across the curriculum
- a collection of digital artifacts to share with parents and other members of our learning community

Great goals! Now, how do you operationalize those goals, especially the second and fourth goal, that relate to your eportfolio? What tools are you exploring? Now that you have goals, what are the specific capabilities that you want in an ePortfolio online environment for your students?
ReplyDeleteI have decided Google Sites is going to work best for me at this point. I want the students to eventually be able to upload there own artifacts without my help and be self-motivated to write in their learning journals without my prompting. What are your thoughts on sharing a student's ePortfolio with their parents and allowing them to comment on the site throughout the year?
ReplyDeleteI am a believer in open communication about ePortfolios with parents. I'm not sure how you would give them access (the student's ID and password?). If you are using GoogleApps for Education, and creating a private space, then you need to set up a strategy to share the student's space with parents. Have you thought about this?
